Roxbury New Jersey Public School Officials faced a time-sensitive challenge in creating allergy prevention classroom conditions with the replacement flooring of its Kennedy School kindergarten classroom.
In order to provide a setting that would establish and maintain a healthy learning environment for young students and prevent allergies, while supporting student learning, they contracted The Gillespie Group, a leading NJ-based commercial flooring provider to provide a long-term flooring solution.
Recipient of the project award through the ESCNJ Co-Op, The Gillespie Group seemed a natural choice, as the company had previously worked on flooring projects at Roxbury High School, the middle school and three other elementary schools in the district. The kindergarten project was its first at the Kennedy School. John Eschmann, Buildings and Grounds Director for the Roxbury School District commented, “Our previous experiences working with The Gillespie Group in several of our other schools were very successful, so we were most confident that they were well equipped to tackle this problem.”
With the health and wellness of the young learners being of paramount concern, the Kennedy School kindergartners were relocated to an alternate location and the process of removing and replacing the old flooring in the 1,300 square foot classroom began.
The Gillespie Group proposed the installation of nora® Rubber Flooring, a material proven to be hypoallergenic, durable and maintenance free. Latex-free and made from the highest quality sustainable raw materials, nora® rubber flooring provides excellent slip resistance and walking comfort, and has excellent acoustic values. Approval by school officials was quickly accomplished due in part to their familiarity with nora® products, which were previously installed in the gym corridors and stairwells at Roxbury High School.
Its extremely dense, non-porous surface resists grease and prevents staining, which results in easy and economical cleaning without the use of harsh chemicals. nora® maintains an attractive appearance through many years of foot traffic and is considered to be an excellent value. John Gillespie, VP of Operations for The Gillespie Group, commented, “While the initial cost of competing products may be slightly less than nora® flooring, its total lifetime installed cost tends to be considerably less thanks to minimal maintenance and upkeep requirements.”
Gillespie also acknowledges that his installation team’s ability to complete the project according to the tightly compressed schedule is also due to the company’s long and extensive experience with nora® products. The Gillespie Group has been a nora® rubber flooring installer for more than 15 years, and has completed dozens of installations throughout the tri-state area.
Recognizing the seven-day project schedule, nora® accelerated their fulfillment schedule and delivered the flooring material in just two days. The Gillespie Group installation team completed their work by week’s end, performed a successful air test over the weekend and students were back in the classroom on Monday morning.
“The school administration was extremely pleased with the finished project and the nora® flooring,” Gillespie concluded, “And they’ve indicated that they will continue to use this product in future projects.”
